Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Macdonald apologized to Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton for calling him out over an issue with using fan-recorded videos to prepare for their Week 1 game in 2024. He said that the comments from his interview with Graham Bensinger weren’t intended for the public so he apologized to Payton personally about it.
Macdonald called the whole thing “a lesson learned” and acknowledged that he’s responsible for the words that come out of his mouth “no matter the circumstance.”
“It was something I didn’t intend to come out for public use,” Macdonald said. “Thought it was the most appropriate thing to reach out to Sean and really just apologize to him for having that be public when it wasn’t meant to. . . . It’s a lesson learned. I gotta be better in that moment for understanding I’m responsible for what I say no matter the circumstance.”
Did he need to apologize?
NFL fans questioned if Macdonald needed to apologize to Payton at all, or at least if he needed to talk about the apology publicly:
“No need to apologize, Sean Payton deserves every negative perception people have of him now and in the future,” one user wrote on X dismissively.

“No need to apologize big dawg but that’s just the class act you are, guy in Denver could take some notes,” wrote another.
“keep your mouth closed then if you have to apologize for what you say,” a third wrote.
“Biggest nothing burger (expletive) ever, let’s just move on everyone.”
As far as Macdonald’s team goes, so far everything is looking fine. Despite the absence of starter Sam Darnold, backup Drew Lock has managed the game well, leading them to a win over the rival Arizona Cardinals in Week 2 after delivering a win over the New England Patriots off the bench in Week 1.
Week 3 will see the Seahawks head east for a game against the struggling Washington Commanders.
