Seahawks’ Injuries are Giving Trevon Diggs a Chance to Prove he can Still Contribute in 2026

From 2020 to 2022, Trevon Diggs was one of the best cornerbacks in the league. After being drafted in the second round in 2020, Diggs racked up 14 pass breakups and three interceptions as a rookie for the Dallas Cowboys.

Then, in 2021, Diggs had his real breakout when he came down with a league-leading 11 interceptions and two interception return touchdowns. Diggs earned his first Pro Bowl appearance for that performance and also ended up as a First-team All-Pro.

Diggs carried that momentum in 2022, coming down with 14 more pass breakups and three more interceptions. Unfortunately, that was the last elite season for Diggs. The corner was limited to just two games in 2023, and he hasn’t played more than 11 games in a season since then.

Diggs had a 2025 season to forget, but he got new life when the Seahawks signed him ahead of Week 1 in 2026. Diggs ended up on the practice squad, and that’s where he’s been until now. Ahead of Week 5, the Seahawks have signed Diggs to the active roster.

Seahawks Need Diggs to Step Up

The Seahawks have had some real injury issues in the secondary this season. Ty Okada has yet to play in a game, rookie safety Bud Clark suffered a season-ending injury in the preseason, and now rookie corner Julian Neal is also on injured reserve.

Because of these injuries, Diggs is getting a perfect opportunity to prove himself. The veteran couldn’t ask for a better opportunity, either, as he has plenty of talented players around him to shoulder the load.

Week 5 will be Diggs’ first real chance, but it helps that he did get some snaps in Week 4. Diggs is also a veteran, so there shouldn’t be as big of a learning curve if his number is called.

Heading into the vitally important matchup with the 49ers in Week 5, the Seahawks’ only healthy corners other than Diggs are Josh Jobe, Devon Witherspoon, and Nehemiah Pritchett. This means that Diggs will almost certainly see significant snaps in this contest.

The Seahawks don’t need Diggs to be elite like he was at the beginning of his career, but he needs to be better than he’s been in recent years. If he can hold his own, he’ll be just another key piece on an elite defense.
