The suspected driver in the hit-and-run, a 59-year-old Elk Grove man, was released later Wednesday from the Sacramento County Main Jail, custody records show.

The Elk Grove Police Department said the suspect was arrested and booked at the jail on a felony charge of hit-and-run.

It’s unclear when he’s scheduled to appear for his arraignment in Sacramento Superior Court. The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office had not formally filed a criminal complaint against him as of Wednesday afternoon.

The hit-and-run was reported about 9 a.m. July 30 in a residential neighborhood a few blocks west of Elk Grove Florin Road.

A 74-year-old woman was walking on West Camden Drive, near Camden Lake Way, when she was struck by a vehicle, according to an Elk Grove police news release.

Police said the suspect driving a GMC Yukon sport utility vehicle drove away without stopping.

Bystanders in the area immediately came to the woman’s aid until officers and medics from the fire department arrived. Police said she suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where she remained hospitalized nearly three weeks later.

Police said traffic investigators, through follow-up interviews, home security camera videos and the department’s automated license plate reader system, identified the GMC Yukon as the suspect vehicle and later identified the driver.

Investigators on Wednesday morning arrested the Elk Grove man at his home, which is in the same neighborhood and not far from where the July 30 hit-and-run occurred, according to the Police Department.

The investigators also found the suspected GMC Yukon in the home’s garage. Police said the SUV had damage on its front end consistent with the hit-and-run.
