The suspect sought in a deadly 2015 south Sacramento shooting has been captured by sheriff’s detectives and is facing murder and firearms charges in the slaying.

Ignacio Robert Navarrette, 34, was arrested July 16, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Wednesday. Detectives reexamined the decade-old case in 2025 and identified Navarrette as the suspect in the killing of 22-year-old Octavio Rodriguez.
Deputies responding to reports of a shooting about 9:30 p.m. Dec. 2, 2015, found Rodriguez in the 3900 block of 48th Avenue in the Bowling Green neighborhood.
Deputies and Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District personnel could not save Rodriguez. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A sheriff’s spokesperson said at the time that deputies had no description of Rodriguez’s killer.
The case went cold before detectives’ 2025 review. A warrant was issued for Navarrette’s arrest, and detectives arrested him July 16.
Navarrette was held without bail on charges of murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm at the Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center in Elk Grove. He was scheduled for an Aug. 3 hearing in Sacramento Superior Court.
