The defending champions hosted the New England Patriots on Sept. 9 at Lumen Field in a rematch of the 2026 Super Bowl. Seattle won 13-10 as its defense relentlessly pressured Patriots quarterback Drake Maye.
Sam Darnold exited the game in the opening possession with a right glute soft tissue injury, and Drew Lock took over under center. The QB2 led the Seahawks’ attack by completing 16-of-22 passes for 187 yards and one touchdown. Jaxon Smith-Njigba also shined with eight receptions for 122 yards and caught Lock’s TD pass.
On Wednesday, Fox Sports published Brady’s power rankings after the first week of NFL action. The seven-time Super Bowl-winning QB made his feelings about the Sehawks abundantly clear.
“At number one, come on, it’s the Seahawks,” Brady said. “When you win the Super Bowl, then win the Super Bowl rematch in the first game back — I don’t care who’s playing QB — you got to get the top spot. The defense, they haven’t skipped a beat.
“And I got another secret QB hack for Drew Lock. As long as Sam is out, throw it anywhere, anywhere on JSN’s side of the field. He’s going to come down with it.”

Brady named the Chicago Bears as the No. 2 team in his power rankings after their 59-37 thrashing of the Carolina Panthers. The San Francisco 49ers rounded out the top 3, followed by the Baltimore Ravens and the Buffalo Bills at fourth and fifth, respectively.
As for the Seahawks, Darnold will not play in Week 2. However, Lock showed that he can produce positive results and step up in the two-time Pro Bowler’s absence.
Seattle will visit the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. The team can solidify their hold at No. 1 on Brady’s power rankings with their first road win in their title defense.
