The 7-year-old Star Guitar gelding started from the far outside post in the field of eight fellow state-breds. The Jeff Delhomme trainee broke alertly under Tim Thornton and raced in third, just off the early pace set by Daddy’s Code and Cunimbus.
As the field approached the second turn, Touchuponastar began his bid for command. When he entered the homestretch, the result was complete domination as Thornton sat chilly while his mount hit the finish line comfortably clear of Tdzshininluckystar. Sippin On Gin was third, just a head behind the runner-up.
Touchuponastar finished the seven-furlong trip in 1:24.79, just off his track record of 1:24.27 set in last year’s Gold Cup. He also scored in the 2023 edition.
