Dodgers’ Dave Roberts Announces Positive Development Before Game 1 Against Brewers

Miguel Rojas is expected to be on the Los Angeles Dodgers’ roster for the National League Championship Series against the Milwaukee Brewers, manager Dave Roberts said Saturday. The veteran infielder is working through a lower back injury that forced him out of Game 3 of the NL Division Series against the Atlanta Braves.

Rojas missed the Dodgers’ series-clinching Game 4 victory over Atlanta on Wednesday. His availability remained uncertain as Los Angeles traveled to Milwaukee for the best-of-seven series.

Roberts said he expects Rojas to make the roster, although the infielder still needs to get through the team’s final workout before the decision is finalized.

According to Maddie Lee of the Los Angeles Times, Roberts expects Rojas to be included after the team evaluates him during its workout. The Dodgers are taking a cautious approach after the back issue interrupted his postseason run.

Rojas aggravated his lower back during Game 3 against Atlanta. He initially continued playing after the discomfort flared up on defense but left during an eighth-inning plate appearance. He was subsequently unavailable for Game 4, when Los Angeles secured its place in the NLCS.

The 37-year-old provides infield depth and a right-handed option off the bench. His availability could also affect the Dodgers’ final roster decisions as they prepare to face Milwaukee.

Los Angeles plans to carry 13 pitchers for the NLCS, requiring a reduction from its 14-position-player Division Series roster. If Rojas is included, the Dodgers will have to decide which other position player to leave off the roster. Hyeseong Kim and rookie Josue De Paula are among the players whose places could be affected.

The Dodgers enter the series after defeating Atlanta in four games. Milwaukee, meanwhile, finished the regular season with a major-league-best 103-59 record and holds home-field advantage for the NLCS. The Brewers will host Game 1 on Sunday at American Family Field.

Rojas’ expected inclusion would give Los Angeles another experienced infielder for the series, but his roster status does not guarantee he will be available to play immediately. The Dodgers must first assess how he responds to the final workout before determining his role against Milwaukee.
