The BMW X5 arrives new and improved for the 2027 model year in more ways than one. The Spartanburg-built model brings Neue Klasse tech, fluid styling, and updated powertrains. It also marks the entry of the first all-electric iX5, which features a range that tops 400 miles on a single charge. The 2027 BMW X5 40 will start at $69,800, while opting for xDrive will increase the model’s price to $72,100. The all-electric iX5 60 xDrive carries a $79,800 price tag.

Up to 570 horsepower
The all-new BMW X5 comes powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine with mild hybrid technology. Thanks to the turbocharger, performance output rises to 394 horsepower, while torque jumps from 383 to 428 lb-ft. The mild hybrid system increases the X5’s responsiveness by providing a boost of up to 17 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque. That power is delivered via an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Opting for the BMW X5 50e xDrive brings improved performance, namely in the form of a 194-horsepower electric motor. Combined, the six-cylinder engine and electric drive generate 483 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. As a result, the X5 50e xDrive can tap 60 mph in as little as 4.6 seconds and travel at up to 87 mph on electrical power alone.
The first-ever BMW iX5 60 XDrive features powerful electric motors that generate 570 horsepower and 593 lb-ft of torque. That kind of performance brings the German SUV to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. It also offers an estimated range of 435 miles and supports 800V charging, allowing the battery to charge to 80% in just 22 minutes.
An abundance of tech
The 2027 BMW X5 brings a long list of standard equipment, much of which revolves around a high-tech layout. The driver’s seat and steering column move to make it easier to get in and out of the vehicle. The manufacturer’s Panoramic iDrive system incorporates Neue Klasse technology. It replaces the conventional instrument cluster with a windshield projection and a 17.9-inch central display. An optional 14.6-inch passenger display offers full access to BMW’s entertainment package, which includes streaming, gaming, and more.

As far as comfort goes, the X5 cabin features an airy design, thanks in part to the large panoramic sunroof. The family SUV also comes equipped with a 2.5-zone climate control and front vents that blend into the instrument panel. While sport seats come standard, buyers can also opt for multifunction seats, complete with massage and ventilation functionality. A 12-speaker sound system comes stock, and a Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system raises the bar as far as entertainment goes. That’s not to mention the optional automatic doors with soft close capability.
Bold, personalized styling
The BMW X5 boasts a new look, with large angular wheel arches, matte black side skirts, and a sleek sloping roofline. Hidden window sills and integrated door handles add to the fluid look. The front end is a good deal taller and wields a sleek, modern aesthetic complemented by double-X light icons. At the rear, the taillights extend across the tailgate, both enhancing visibility and creating unmistakable signature lighting.
Personalization is key in the 2027 BMW X5, with 11 exterior colors and 10 wheel designs to choose from. 21-inch light-alloy wheels come stock, but 22- and, for the first time ever, 23-inch wheels are available as upgrades. Notably, BMW has dropped the split tailgate, a constant since 1999, and replaced it with a more conventional one-piece rear hatch.
Final thoughts
BMW is clearly looking to make a good impression upon the masses as the German marque makes the transition to Neue Klasse systems. The X5, which the automaker claims launched the sport activity segment, is the perfect way to do just that. Adding Neue Klasse technology to the equation only bolsters the 2027 BMW X5’s appeal as a premier family SUV.
