Asked whether he would consider removing himself as Texas’ offensive play caller, Sarkisian
Texas went three-and-out seven times and punted on all three of its third-quarter possessions. The Longhorns also struggled to run the ball, with freshman Derek Cooper leading the team with 41 rushing yards.
Meanwhile, quarterback Arch Manning didn’t have a bad game, finishing 19 of 31 for 260 yards and three touchdowns, but his two fourth-quarter interceptions helped Oklahoma erase a 17-7 halftime deficit.
“Not a chance,” Steve Sarkisian replied when asked if he’s considered removing himself as the offensive play caller.
Is Sarkisian considering removing Jeff Banks as the special teams coordinator?
“No.”

Sarkisian said the Longhorns’ problems haven’t come from a lack of work, but rather execution.
“I’m frustrated, you know, because we’re working at it,” Sarkisian said. “It’s not for lack of effort. It’s not for teachable moments and coaching and all those things. But clearly, it hasn’t been good enough.”

Texas also allowed a blocked punt that Oklahoma recovered for a touchdown, while kicker Gianni Spetic sent a kickoff out of bounds and later missed a 53-yard field goal with the score tied late.
Sarkisian, however, rejected other staff changes, including special teams coordinator Jeff Banks and his responsibilities, answering “No” when asked whether he had considered such a move.
Despite the loss, Sarkisian made it clear Texas will bounce back from their lone loss of the season through five games.
“We’re not dead,” Sarkisian said. “We’re going to be OK. We’ll get back up off the mat.”
Texas will return to action on Saturday at noon ET when the Longhorns host the Florida Gators at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium.
